~ 1935 NICKEL ~
KNOWN AS A INDIAN HEAD NICKEL
Let me explain the difference between a NICKEL when I was eight years old, from today`s NICKEL.
Believe it or not, it was a big part of my life in growing up. This is what a NICKEL looked like when I was growing up
*
.If you look back in the story of me growing up, where I mention a few ways I earned money to go to the movies, or go to the skating ring. I did not do any of those thing untill one day my Mother did not have a NICKEL to gave me to go to
the movies one Saturday.
*
It wasn`t the first time my Mother told me she did not have a NICKEL to give me. Because money was scarce then ,
and a NICKEL would have bought a quart of milk or a loaf of bread, which was more needed with a family of ten.
*
The reason I was so disapointed when I couldn`t go to the movies was that they were giving away a new bike to the
winner of the serial cartoon race that they would be showing for the children to see. I most likely didn`t care about the movie that was showing. I just wanted to have a chance to win the bike that would be on the stage for all the kids to see. So do you see how value the NICKEL was then?
*
Today the kids don`t know how valuable a Nickel was back then, Even today the kids don`t know the value of a Dollar is. Because they never had to know, because money is so easy to come by for the kids now a days.
*
I see the kids come out of the store or mall and throw thier change in to the parking lot. Many times after they leave I would go over to pick the coins up, and some times it is close to a dollar of change!!!!
*
I have seen them just walk a way from the cash rergister and leave the change of coins on the counter. This is what a
NICKEL looked like back in the 1930`s & 40`s, The old Indian head NICKEL. Do you have one in your strong box
They are keepers now, They are a collector `s item.

I feel sorry for the parents todays world when the video`s and the CD`S came out. I have heard the kids say to thier parents "it`s only $50.00, they did not care how expensive they were. And they just didn`t only want one of them, they wanted two maybe three. I know I have been there with my grandson . And I did say no to him more then once, But there were special times that come up like birthday`s and christmas when I did buy him one or two.
*
I notice more with my Grand Children then I did with my own Children that they don`t know the value of a NICKEL. I am not saying my Children did. because they didn`t either, because I heard the same from them back then it`s only $30.00.
*
Well I can tell you honestly, I didn`t make any of the brand name companies rich when my Children were growing up.
I never had brand name clothes and my ( butt ) stayed warm during the New England winters. The only time I would recieved any money to keep was from my Grand Father when we would visit him a couple of times a year. He would give us two dollars, that was a lot of money in 1947.
*
My Grandfather had twienty grand children, During Christmas Holiday that would set him back about $ 40.00. That could have been near his weekly pay check. Just to show you how it was back when in my early days growing up in the 30`s &
40`s. I had ten aunt`s and uncle`s and I don`t ever remembering getting a birthday or Christmas gift from them. It was tough for every one, you didn`t need to come from a large family to not to have any money. Every body suffered during the depression.

1.
You will not get rich in the stock market.
You will get reasonable rates of return, but that will be over a long time horizon
. People get rich in one of four ways: They inherit it, they make it in real estate, they make it by owning
a business, or they save a tremendous amount over a long period of time.
Do not overestimate the stock-market returns and understand how it works.
Develop a reasonable investment strategy, stick to it and over time you will do fine.
2.
Save -- no matter what. There is always a reason not to save
but successful people do the right thing on a consistent basis. Often the best
time to save is when times are at their worst. Looking back on 2008, the
greatest returns are from dollars invested during that market downturn.
3.
What is your plan B?
If "Plan A never worked then you need to
make sure you have something to fall back on. Most successful people have not
had everything go their way all the time. They know that no matter time and
preparation that they do, things will never go exactly as planned. Having other
alternatives that you can use to make the plan work is the key to being successful.
4.
The tortoise always wins!
Success is not the result of one
great action and it is not a one hit wonder. It is about consistently doing the
right things on a regular basis. The individual that gets in early, takes
additional training and education, and consistently works to make themselves
better in all aspects of their lives (family, friends and business) will beat
the person who is more sizzle than substance.
5.
Get the smartest people to work with you.
My goal is to be the idiot in the room because that means I'm in the right room filled with very bright people.
Every major decision I make I run by my advisors and associates first before I
do anything.I just put an offer on a building and prior to that, I ran the numbers by my
accountant, how to structure it with my attorney, my contractor had walked through the property
with me, and my mortgage person gave me the financial options ... all prior to
making an offer. Nobody can be an expert at everything, and understanding what
your limitations are and then bringing in top people to help will make for much
better decisions.
6.
I have saved more money by saying "no" than by saying "yes
." Not all deals are great ones and
anytime something doesn't fit what you are good at, it is better to walk away
and live to fight another day. Getting involved with projects that don't fit
your core strengths generally is labor intensive, mentally exhaustive, and, more
likely than not, you will lose you money.
7.
Understand the "reasonable range" for anything.
Someone offers to sell you a brand new Porsche Turbo convertible. "Zero to 60 -- in 3.3 seconds
.it has a seven-speed power-shifting transmission with 520 horsepower and 524 pounds of
torque. The list on it is around $160,000 and I can get you a brand new one for
around $80,000 ... what do you say?" If you say "I'm in," then you are going to
be ripped off for $80,000! People get themselves in a lot of trouble when they
get away from reasonable ranges. Generally, deals that seem to have no risk are
the riskiest, and investments with guaranteed large returns generally will
guarantee that you lose money. I am not saying that there are not great deals
out there, but if it is being proposed to you, really do your homework and due diligence.
I have been fortunate enough to work by myself, over the years, had some tremendous opportunities, and some hardships to learn from some People make things way too complicated. These rules are simple and will make your life a lot easier!
I have always said, Save your pennies, the dollars will take care of it self.
If you don`t save your pennies you won`t ever see a dollar saved.

THE BOX OF MONEY
A man and woman had been married for more than 60 years. They had shared everything. They had talked about everything. They had kept no secrets from each other except that the little old woman had a shoe box in the top of her closet that she had cautioned her husband never to open or ask her about.
For all of these years, he had never thought about the box, but one day the little old woman got very sick and the doctor said she would not recover in trying to sort out their affairs, the little old man took down the shoe box and took it to his wife's bedside. She
agreed that it was time that he should know what was in the box. When he opened it, he found two crocheted dolls and a stack of money totaling $95,000.
He asked her about the contents When we were to be married,' she said, ' my grandmother told me the secret of a happy marriage was to never argue. She told me that if I ever got angry with you, I should just keep quiet and crochet a doll.'
The little old man was so moved; he had to fight back tears. Only two Precious dolls were in the box. She had only been angry with him two Times in all those years of living and loving. He almost burst with Happiness.
'Honey,' he said, 'that explains the dolls, but what about all of this money? Where did it come from?'
'Oh,' she said, 'that's the money I made from selling lots of the dolls.' there are two left

Now I am 23-years old, and have a family of my own
My take home pay was $40.00 for 48 hours a week. I made $1.00 a hour back in 1955 to support my famlly, that had to cover my RENT,- GROCERIES,- ELECTRIC BILL.- OIL BILL,- GAS -BILL PHONE -BILL. There were times when I didn`t have 29 cents to buy a pound of hamburg for a Sunday dinner.
*
When I couldn`t feed my family at the age of 23, I went out and found a second job to have money to pay my bills and feed my family. I was now working at the Supreme Markets Supper Market, for 48 hours six day`s a week during the day, and then I would work nights for the Wonder Bread Company on a 8 hour shifts three times a week.
*
I would bring home more money from Wonder Bread a week then I did from my full time job at the market. after we got on our feet, and all was looking good . I left the market and went full time with Wonder Bread.
*
That was a bad move, bills start to pale up again, so I went back to three days with Wonder, and the Supreme Markets took me back full time. there were many times we didn`t have a NICKEL.
*
It was tough even back in 1958 for people like me who had no education at all to speak of, So I had to take what work I could find, It was very hard to bring up and support a wife and three Children. I did not even have a car, I walk to work to
both jobs for two years before some one gave me a used car, he was a friend of my Father`s, this car sat in his yard for one year, he stop driving because of his eyes. That car was in excellent condition, I was very lucky, and it last me for six
years,
*
Many nights I would be awake in my bed with a tear or two rolling down my cheek because I was wishing that I had a better education so I could support my family, I am not a stupid man, I am just a man that got lost in the shuffle being toss from one home to another home of people I did not know, or liked my schooling was always push to the back burner on low heat.
*
Even with out the education, I did well for my self, I worked my way up to be the Supreme Markets Store Mansger, and retired after 25 years. Then I went out to get a new job because I was still kinder young to be retired.
*
So I found a factory job at the National Coating Company in Rockland, after a year being there, I became the plant supertendent and was controlling three shifts operation, and did the hireing and the firering.
*
I had 20 - acres of land in New Hamshire where we went in the summer for family vacation. and one acre of prime land down in Florida to retire on. So I did not do to bad for a man with ten grade education. six great children
*
So to end this story on a good note, It may take 20 NICKELS today to buy that quart of milk. But the Value is the same

You know I hear people on TV. complaining about the cost of food in our super markets
~ E ~
~ E ~
*
Food prices has been going up and going up for decades when we were children and our parents were complaining about their food prices. So do you see or can you understand it is not the prices of the food you buy, or the gas prices that you are force to pay is the problem.
Do you really want to know where the problem is? and how to fix it so you won`t mind paying for that food or gas you really need to make it in this life. If the answer is YES ,
Then read on and try to understand where I am coming from, most people may think I am talking out of my ass, and there is other think I need help MEDICALLY.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

OK, I do agree with you and many other`s who are saying that food prices are very high.
But if you look at it the way I do, you might, I said you might start to think at it differently when you stop and think about how many people who supporting a family, and trying to earn a living growing the items we need to have on our table each week.
WE NEED FOOD TO LIVE NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT COST.
IT`S LIKE MEDICAL INSURANCE , WE NEED IT TO LIVE, NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT COST.

This item bottle water is one of the worse money loser then cigerattes. You and your children don`t need this, I have seen over the years people throw half of the water away during their walk or run. The children just want it to get attention, have the time they don`t drink it. It is a big waste, the water out of you sink is just as good, go to the WalMart and buy a water filter picture coat $25.00 Compare to $5.49 X 52 = $285.49 and more.
Bottle water, people are buying bottle water like it was milk. It is unbelievable what the stores are selling.
How did we get along before there was bottle water ? FILTER YOUR OWN AND SAVE SOME MONEY

PAPER TOWELS Now Here I am getting closer to where you are going to say NO-WAY. But you must remember we are trying to find a way to pay for those food and gas prices ...THAT WE NEED. So I want you to think this one out real good, Paper Towels ...come on now you got to think this out.. What is wrong having a old t-shirt cut in to nice hand close for cleaning and wiping away the spilled milk. and you do not have to buy any of those dirty sponge that are not healthy to use in the first place, a sponge is the worse thing to use for cleaning in the kitchen. The price of the bounty towel are $ 2.00 . let say one a week, If you use two a week then double it. $2.00 or $4.00 x 52 $ 104.00 or $208.00 year for paper towels that's alot of money you can save in the bank a year to help buy the food and gas that you really need. Plus $285,49 from above on water
give you a total so far of $ 493.00 in the bank for food cost a year. WE ARE NOT FINISH YET.
*>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

And guess what folks
We all can afford the new food prices, and gas prices. and I am going to tell you how...For those who smoke and paying $10.00 a pack give it up it is not doing anything for you but giving you bad breath and bad health. Just this alone would off set those food prices you are complaining about.

NEW NEW NEW NEW NEW
I have stopped smoking ten years now March 18 2004. Look what it has saved me to date.
Cigarettes cost back then when I stopped was $5.00 a pack . $50.00 a carton, I smoked a carton or more a week.
So I will use a carton a week for this example.
1 ) A carton a week cost me $ 50.00 x 52 weeks the first year = $2,600 Saved
2 ) Same prices for the second year for not smoking = $2,600 x 2 yrs = $5,200 Saved
3 )Third year the prices went up and I was paying $6.00 a pack $ 60.00 a carton x 52 = $3,120 Plus $5,200 = $8,320 Saved
4 ) Five years a pack was $ 7.00 a pack $ 70.00 a carton x 52 =$3,172 plus above balance of $ 8,320 = $11,492 Saved
5 )Seven years $8.00 A pack $80.00 x 52 = $4,160 Plus the above balance of $11,493 =$15,653 Saved
6 )Eight years a pack is $10.00 and a carton was $100.00 a week for 104 weeks = $10,400 Plus balance of $15,653=$26,053
7 )ten Years is still $10.00 a pack $ 100.00 a carton x 104 weeks two years = $10,400 plus above $26,053 =$36,453 Saved
This example is based on one carton of cigarettes a week, On my kitchen wall there is list showing I have saved nearly
$50,000 because I smoked more then a pack a day almost a carton and a half. But what ever, I just want to show how you can save by not somking and save the money in a bank, your $ 50,000 will grow by getting interest each year for your retirement.
So this example is showing that you can save $ 36,452 in ten years for your retirement, collecting interest in a IRA
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>*
Now I am going to list item below for you to think of that you might be able to live with out we are creatures of habit when it come down to easy living items like
*
PLASTICE CUPS I stopped using plastic & foam cups, I have four glasses always in my strainer in my double sink to use when I have a glass of mike, or soda. or water I would use a package of cups every week at .79 cents times 52 = $41.08, more in the summer.. Now they are $1.29 x52=$67.08 I am saving useing glass
*
CUP OF COFFEE on the way to work is a big no no, Make it at home and bring your coffee with you. It is just being lazy. get up a half hour early and have a cup of coffee whale you get dress in the morning, and then bring one with you, You will save lots of money to help pay for you food and gas bill. Two cups of coffee a day is more then enough. so if you also had coffee during the day
you should consider on giving it up 2- coffee $ 5.00 X 7= $35.00 x 52 =$ 1,820.00

*
TURN OFF THE LIGHT There are so many ways to save money, and to cut back in your spending, I look across the street and notice a light on in every room of the house is on. The owner is alone by her self and all the lights are on, that is being lazy again not turning the light out when leaving one room to the next. Some people can afford it, but why spend and waste money because you are not thinking.
TURN OFF THE LIGHT WHEN LEAVING ONE ROOM TO THE NEXT.
Turn down the heat, Put on a sweater if you are chilly. this helps save many gallon`s of oil and lots of money.
So now maybe I gave a few idea`s or ways to save money to pay for the cost of your food and gas, You may had to give up something to save. After a while you will notice that you don`t miss the water in a bottle or those paper towels or plastic cups

CHILDREN HAPPINESS FOUNDATION
Bob Casey Collected more then 360,000 soda can`s a NICKEL at a time = $18,000
To help to make dream`s come true
BY Robert Lee - The Patriot Ledger. 1984
ROCKLAND...Bob Casey is a proud man with a beautiful home, a healthy family and enough money to retire comfortably in Florida. He`s not the sort of person you expect to find stooped over a trash can at the beach digging for cans and bottles for the Children at the C.H.F.
*
But for seven year`s that`s where he was every Saturday, Casey raised $18,000 dollars, a NICKEL at a time to
the dreams of sick and drying Children.
*
Now Casey has trouble stooping over to accomplish even the simplest of task. He severely injured his back in a fall two years ago and was forced to abandon his dream of collecting one million cans to benefit the Children`s Happiness
Foundation.
*
This week , after years of declining interviews and refusing all recognition for his efforts, Now it`s 1984 Casey, at the age of 57 opened his scrapbook and discussed his work in the hope that some one might pick up where he left off.
*
Bob Casey heard about the foundation while watching a telethon in September 1984 and wrote a check for $25.00 But he could not sleep that night, feeling his contribution was to small to make a difference.
*
Casey called the organization the next day and pledged to collect one -Million soda can and bottles and donate the proceeds. from that day forward. Casey collected cans from friends, dumpsters, at beaches, parks, downtown businesses, and any where else he could find them.
*
At first he collected about 1,000 cans a month, a rate that will impressive, would have kept him from his goal until
2066 Eventually, Casey was collecting as many as 7,000 a week. During the seven years period, he picked up 360,000 cans.
*
I had no idea how hard it would be, I thought about quitting many times in the winter when my hands ached from
separating and counting cans out in the wood shed in the cold.
*
Casey is scheduled for a second back operation in January, He hopes to recover enough to start retrieving cans again.
but he says his dream is almost certainly out of reach unless someone else takes over, That would be nice wouldn`t it.
*
Edward Hicks a member of the foundations board of directors since 1983, called Casey truly remarkable. He said Casey has refused to accept any recognition from the children and families who benefited from his generosity.
*
Casey said his efforts were driven not by a need for attention, but by a wish to make children happy. The way I see it. If a child is drying of some chronic disease and they are wishing for some thing that will make them happy.. just for one day ...
THEY SHOULD HAVE IT
*
Casey is the largest individual contributor in the history of the Foundation. The Marshfield - base charity raises between
$100,000 and 150,000 a year, and sense 1980, has granted about 600 wishes to New England children suffering from fatal or chronic diseases. The wishes range from a pair of roller skates to family trip to Disney World.
*
This world is for the new children that is coming, Casey said. We all know what it was like as children to want something,
"if not I do"
*
The seventh of eight children from the Neponset area of Dorchester, Casey quit school never reaching high school, but
with a combination of self-discipline and determination and a little bit of street smarts and a lot of command sense , he became store manager at a Purity Supreme Super Market in South Boston.
*
After retiring and moving into a stately home on Union Street in Rockland. Casey took up a second career as a plant
manager at the National Coating Company Rockland.. He sure came along way, but he made the big time. Well done Bob.
